Born and raised in Eastern Kentucky, Mr. Murphy started showing interest for carpentry at an early age. With the help of his father, Mr. Donnie Murphy, he started learning about the different techniques in building & custom wood work. By the time he turned 18 he already had 8 (eight) years of experience . Ever since he was a little boy his dream had been owning his own custom wood shop. In the summer of 2003 Mr. Murphy married Mrs. Maria Torres-Murphy and started working at a custom stairs shop. After five (5) years the opportunity of finally opening the doors to his own business, Mr. Murphy along with his wife, opened “Murphy’s Custom Woodshop & laser Engraving” in Lexington, KY on November 9th, 2007. Born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, daughter of Nilda Fernandez de Torres, MD, and Antonio Torres Mur, MD; Mrs. Torres moved to Fort Lauderdale Florida in September of 1998 after graduating from PUCMM University with a Bachelor Degree in Hotel Management. Mrs. Torres attended The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale from where she graduated with an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts. Mrs. Torres showed from an early age high interest in culinary arts; she attended her first cooking class at the age of eleven (11) years old; her dream has always been to own her own restaurant. In Spring of 2005 she decided to go back to school, but this time she chose a totally different career: Information Technology. She graduated from Sullivan University with two (2) degrees, an Associate Degree in Information Technology and a Certification Diploma in Microsoft. Currently she is part of the National College of Business & Technology faculty, where she teaches a couple of Microsoft Office classes ever since September of 2007. The rest of her time she spends it at the shop helping her husband to manage their business, do all the laser engraving jobs, bookkeeping , and customer service relations.
